What Are All Those F150 Trim Packages About?

Being new to the automotive industry I had no idea what my fellow employees meant when they began talking about XL, XLT, Platinum, Limited, etc. I knew that they were trim packages and, I could guess which ones were the higher end packages based on the names, but I had no idea what was included in which. After spending more time at the dealership, I began learning more about the different options and thought I would share with you the break downs of trim packages on 2018 Ford F-150s.

XL

This is the most affordable version of the F-150 model and is great for basic everyday use. Exterior consists of black front and rear bumpers, tailgate and door handles, and a 2-Bar Grille. The XL model has 17” Silver Steel Wheels and optional towing capabilities. Standard engine is a 3.3L V6 with an optional 2.7L EcoBoost engine. These are the bottom line trucks in the F-150 line but still great looking and driving trucks!

 XLT

The XLT is a step up from the XL and includes some additional features that improve comfort and usability for a little extra money. Most of the extra costs included in the XLT have to do with the sharp looking exterior features and the technological advancements. Exterior features include chrome front and rear bumpers and a 2-Bar chrome grille. The wheels are still 17” but are aluminum for better durability. There are also some nice security aspects such as power door and tailgate locks as well as 911 Assist. Engine sizes available are the same as the XL so power isn’t much different in the XLT. You’re paying extra for the more stylish appearance and the extra safety and comfort features.

Lariat

The main difference between the Lariat and XLT is in the power. The standard engine in a Lariat is a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 with the option to upgrade to a 5.0L V8 engine.The Lariat Trim also has leather seats, LED lights, and and 8" Productivity Screen.

King Ranch

Most people have heard of the King Ranch because it is one of the most advertised models. It has an appealing and memorable name and many people, including myself, thought of this as a top of the line Trim. Despite it not being top of the line, the King Ranch is a beastly truck with great power, features, and style. Standard engine is 5.0L V8 and there are some added features such as wood accents and a navigation system.

Platinum

The Platinum is a grade above the King Ranch. Engine size is the same at 5.0L but the Platinum Trim has some upgraded features. There is a nice satin finish on the grille and tailgate and more leather interior design. The Platinum F-150 has extra room for those of you with long legs, or like me, use your vehicle for storing items! Additional features include 20” Aluminum wheels, rain-sensing wipers, and blind spot information system.    

Limited

The Limited Trim Package is the top of the line and, therefore, most expensive and luxurious. This trim gives you the best-looking interior with contrast stitching in the seats and steering wheel and top of the line floor mats. Technological features include a 360 Degree Camera, adaptive cruise control, plus LED lights on mirrors and tailgate. Oh, and I almost forgot, there is also a moon-roof! Standard engine is the 3.5L EcoBoost V6.
