With the weather beginning to warm up both you and your pooch are probably ready to get out and enjoy the fresh air! We are fortunate to live in a pet friendly region of the state, with Asheville being named one of the top cities in the country to take your pets. (https://www.travelchannel.com/interests/pets/articles/top-5-pet-friendly-towns. When it comes to activities in the area there are a variety of options for you and your furry friend.

Western North Carolina has plenty of outdoor adventures if you enjoy hiking or a day at the park. (Let your dog get out some of that energy!) Trails such as Carolina Mountain Trail in Asheville, Craggy Pinnacle Trail in Black Mountain, Waterrock Knob Trail in Sylva, and Graveyard Fields in Canton, are all examples of easy to moderate hikes that are great when bringing along your dog.

If you aren’t feeling up to a hike, then taking your pet to the dog park is always great fun! Mark Watson park in Sylva, NC has a dog park that is great for playing fetch or just lounging on a bench while your dog plays. Other dog park options include the French Broad River Dog Park in Asheville, Mills River Dog Park, Azalea Road Dog Park in Asheville, and the Waynesville Dog Park. These are just a few of the many dog parks available in our area. You can find more here: https://www.bringfido.com/attraction/parks/state/north_carolina/

There are also plenty of dining options in Jackson and surrounding counties where your pet can be included in the experience. Boots Steakhouse, Foragers Canteen, and Haywood Smokehouse are all pet friendly dining locations in Dillsboro, NC. City Lights Café, Creekside Oyster House, Guadalupe Café, Lulu’s, and South of Philly are some of the Sylva pet friendly eateries. If you are wanting to grab a drink and take along your pet then check out Innovation Brewing in Sylva or the Lazy Hiker in Franklin, NC. Asheville, NC has other great eateries that are pet friendly as well.

Other ideas for a day trip with your dog are the Montford Park Players in Asheville and the Gold City Gem Mine in Franklin. Every dog gets a treat from Three Dogs Bakery when attending a production by the Montford Park Players. Read more about them here http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/travel/uscities/guides/us/FOLDERnc/usonlinenc2545146sh.shtml.
