According to a survey done by Cox Automotive, 55% of people test drive only one vehicle and that is the one they end up buying. Why is it that we typically try on several pairs of jeans or shoes but only test out one vehicle? It is okay to have in mind what you want, but it never hurts to check out all your options. You may come in to look at an Explorer but then decide you love the Escape because it is more compact and you don’t really need all the space that the Explorer has or vice versa.

The car salesmen are there to assist you and if you want to test drive three vehicles then do it. Don’t worry about being a bother to anyone. While you’re driving also pay attention to how it feels, not only basic comfort, but how does the vehicle handle. How is the turn radius? Brake sensitivity? How does the steering wheel feel? Pay attention to these things because you will likely be driving your vehicle for several years.

Tips

·         Schedule an Appointment: It is always good to make sure that the vehicles you are wanting to test drive are on the lot or haven’t just sold, especially if you are driving from a distance. It is also good to give us a heads up that you’re coming so we can go ahead and pull the car around for you and have you all ready to go for a test drive when you arrive.

·         Get Comfortable: Being one of the shorter employees at the dealership I often find that the seat is way far back when I go to drive one of the cars. Don’t strain your leg reaching for the pedal; adjust your seat and mirrors to what is comfortable for you. Go ahead and play with the A/C and radio while you’re at it.

·         Take a Drive in the Rain: Most people prefer to test drive a vehicle on a beautiful sunny day, but it makes more sense to go on a nasty day. You get to test out the windshield wiper speed, the defroster, tire traction, etc. Put your future vehicle to the test!
