Whether to trade your car in or sell it outright can be a tough decision to make so it is important to know all your facts before deciding. How much time do you have? Is your car in popular demand or will it be hard to sell? Are you looking for a tax break?

The first thing to note when considering trading versus selling is if you even have time to sell. Selling your vehicle requires posting on Craigslist, eBay, Facebook Marketplace/For Sale Pages, etc. There is also lots interaction with strangers and meeting up for test drives. This might be the way to go for individuals that have free time and enjoy sales. For those of you that don’t have time to advertise your vehicle or meet up with potential buyers, trading in could be your best bet. Trading is fast, simple and limits much of the hassle involved with selling your vehicle outright.

If you have a car that is in good condition, has low mileage, and is in demand then you could try selling it yourself (if you have the time). However, if your car has dents, scrapes, stains, high mileage, or just isn’t an easier seller, then take it to a dealership. We don’t care what condition your car is in, we will take it as a trade! As a dealer we obviously want to have some hot items on our lot for customers to choose from, but it is good to keep in mind that we have the option of wholesaling, which makes us able to buy “undesirable vehicles.”

Trading in may not always give you “top dollar” for your vehicle but it will be a fair price without all the aggravation. If you check out your vehicle value on NADA.com, you can get a good idea of what we would give for your trade in. You are also only going to be taxed on the difference between the trade-in value of your old car and your new car, which is a nice save. For instance, if you get $10,000 on your trade in and your new car is worth $20,000, you only get taxed on the $10,000 difference.

When it comes down to it, you just have to weigh your options and decide what works best with your schedule. If you have questions about what you should do, always feel free to come by and talk to us. We would happily appraise your vehicle and discuss what options you have.

We are located in Sylva, NC, right across from Walmart so if you are in the Sylva, Cullowhee, Dillsboro, Franklin, Waynesville, or other surrounding western North Carolina areas, stop by and talk to us about your trading in your used car for a used or new vehicle!
