So why do so many people rave about Ford’s EcoBoost Engine? Many of you have probably heard of the Ford engine technology but wonder what the engine actually does.

One of the reasons the F-150 EcoBoost engine is popular is because the 2.7L and 3.5L EcoBoost engines are comparable in power and torque to a V8 engine, but consume less fuel, and therefore save you from pouring so much money into your gas tank! Towing capacity is impressive in these engines; the 2.7L EcoBoost can tow up to 9,000lbs and the 3.5L EcoBoost can tow up to 13,200lbs (2018 F150s).

The EcoBoost engine has helped make the F150 one of the most fuel-efficient pickups on the market. The 2.7L EcoBoost engine averages 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway and the 3.5L EcoBoost engine averages 17mpg city and 23 mpg highway. Not bad gas mileage for a truck with that much power!

Just like many other Ford products, the EcoBoost engine is built to last. Some users have seen mileage over 200,000 with no problems (outside of typical maintenance).

Here’s How It Works

·         Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing (Ti-VCT): opens/closes the valves in perfect sequence with the current load condition. This enhances power and efficiency throughout the power band.

·         TurboCharged Performance: The energy produced by the EcoBoost engine exhaust rotates a turbine that is “coupled to a compressor that pressurizes incoming air into the combustion chambers”

·         Direct Fuel Injection: EcoBoost engines have direct fuel injection which results in a less complicated fuel injection process that wastes less fuel and maximizes power.
