Andy Shaw Ford is very pleased to welcome Scott Rodes as the newest member of its Sales Team. Scott will assume the responsibilities of Finance/Sales Manger for the dealership. Scott comes well qualified, with over 32 years of experience in the automotive business, first as owner/operator of Scott Rodes Buick-Pontiac-GMC Dealership in Sylva and as Sales and Finance Manager for a dealership in Franklin. After working in Franklin for the past 7 years, he feels, "It's time to come home to Sylva." Scott resides in Sylva with his wife, Tracy and has grown children in Texas and Florida. Folks are invited to stop by the dealership and welcome Scott back to the "neighborhood."

Welcome Aboard Steve
 
We are pleased to welcome Steve Smith to our sales team. Steve comes to us from the Columbus, Ohio area where he had 6 years experience in selling Toyotas. We are glad he has chosen to move over to the "Blue Oval." Steve's wife, Margaret, is a faculty member at Western Carolina University and his two children attend Fairview Elementary.

Resusci Anne Presented at a Franklin Rotary Club Meeting
Larry Hinton, Rotarian from Sylva, President/General Manager of Andy Shaw Ford and representing the National Automobile Dealers of America, presented to Franklin Boy Scout Troop 202 a portable CPR trainer. The scouts will use the Resuci-Anne for learning CPR. The portable trainer will be shared with two other Franklin Scout Troops. Scoutmaster Charlie Vargas and three troop members were in attendance to receive the portable CPR trainer.

Community Table's New Ford Van
The Community Table recently received a $25,000 grant from The Cannon Foundation for the purchase of a cargo van. The van will be a huge asset to the organization (who's mission is that no one in Jackson county go to bed hungry). in terms of increased capacity, efficiency, and sustainability. The Table has needed a cargo van for a long time as they haul large quantities of donated and purchased food back to The Table each week. Until now this has been done with staff and volunteer vehicles, which was not ideal. This type of use puts a lot of wear and tear on vehicles not designed for such heavy use and it's tough to find people willing to sacrifice their vehicles in this way. Now they will be able to get everything in one load and will also be able to make trips to MANNA Food Bank in Asheville to stock up on food. They never had a vehicle large enough before to justify the expense of that trip for the small amount they could bring back. Amy Grimes-Sims, Executive Director, said "We are thrilled to have  new options to help us bring in food to feed our neighbors in need".
"Andy Shaw Ford has been very instrumental in this process. They quickly found just the van we were looking for to suit our needs. Not only did they give us the van at cost, they even donated the additional expense over the $25,000 grant amount, telling us they'd rather us use that money to purchase more food" she added.

Meet the Newest Members of our Sales Team

In recent months not just one, but two new Sales Consultants have joined the team at Andy Shaw Ford. Starting on November 19, 2012 Allen Powell and Greg Jamison began their new careers selling both new and used vehicles.

Many of you will remember Allen (Luke's older Brother) from his three years in the Body Shop as the Paint Prep guy, and before that his time in Parts as a counter man. Allen, originally from Lake Lure where he attended and graduated from R. S. Central High School came to the Sylva area by way of Western Carolina University. Allen graduated there in 2008 with a BS in Entrepreneurship. Allen is currently engaged to Ms Sydney Penson who teaches second graders at Swain West Elementary School. Their wedding is planned for the Summer of 2014.

While enjoying all the people that he is meeting out on the "lot," Allen's most memorable experience thus far was his trip with Greg to Chicago for a Joe Verdi sales training class. "I am absolutely amazed that Larry and Scotty already have that much faith in me to invest that kind of money in my success as a sales person," said Allen. By his salesnumbers it appears that faith and training are already paying off.

Greg Jamison is a newcomer to the Sales Department but not Jackson County or the Dealership. Greg was born, raised, married and now raising his own family in Jackson County. He has, over the years, purchased 6 new Fords and then had them serviced here. "I was always treated with excellent service and friendship and that's the reason I came to work here," said Greg. Greg, his wife Carla, and two boys, Dillon (14) and Dawson (13) are very active in the community. Greg has served as a board member (10 yrs) and President (3 yrs) for the Smoky Mountain Youth Football and Cheerleading organization. He is currently vice president of the Smoky Mountain High School Booster Club and Assistant Baseball Coach for Little League. Greg is very excited about being a member of the Andy Shaw Ford Sales Team. Greg wants to continue that excellent service and friendship that he experienced to all of his family, friends and neighbors.

Andrew Shaw, age 62 of Sarasota, FL passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 in Greenville, SC.  He was born in Cleveland, OH on November 4, 1949.  He is survived by his wife, Natalia, sons Anson and Hayden, step-sons Jay and Vladimir, granddaughter Zoey Layne, sisters Dixie (Ted) Neuhaus of Avon Lake, OH and Rima Bellan of Cashiers, NC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  His parents, Norman and Lois, and brothers, Ramond, Alan, and Paul predeceased him.

Andrew was a graduate of Sarasota High School, Duke University, Phi Beta Kappa, and Duke Law School, with honors.  He was a senior shareholder for 25 years in the Sarasota law firm of Fergeson, Skipper, Shaw and Tirabassi, P.A., heading the firm's litigation department until the summer of 2000.  He concentrated in construction litigation and was an exceptional advocate in serving his clients' needs.

While enjoying the practice of law, Andrew still found time to nurture his passion for automobiles, specifically those manufactured by the Ford Motor Company.  In December 1997, he bought the then-defunct Ford Motor Company franchise for Jackson County, NC, and opened a brand new state-of-the-art facility located on East Main Street, across from the newly opened Wal-Mart Superstore.  Later, in December 2001, he partnered with Mr. Larry Hinton to open Andy Shaw Ford, with a clear focus to serve Jackson County for all of its automotive needs.  Since that time, Andy Shaw Ford has earned numerous awards for its commitment to customer service, including the prestigious President's Award from the Ford Motor Company.

Andrew remained active in community activities with a particular focus in helping animals.  He was active with the Blue Ridge School Education Foundation, the Sarasota Humane Society, and with other organizations focused on placing animals with good homes.  He was committed to taking care of God's creatures that needed help in a crisis. 

A memorial service to celebrate Andrew's life is planned for Thursday, October 4th, receiving friends at 6:00p.m., followed by the memorial service at 7:00p.m., at Appalachian Funeral Home Services, 165 Skyland Drive, Sylva, NC 28779.  Andrew will be interred near his parents and siblings in Sarasota, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that recognition be given to either of the following organizations:

Andy Shaw Ford, General Mills partner to help area schools October 17, 2011 

Sylva - Ford Motor Company and Andy Shaw Ford are providing additional funding to local schools through a partnership with General Mills and he popular Box Tops for Education Program.

 

Ford, the first automobile company to partner with General Mills on its initiative, kicked off a two month program on October 3, which aims to generate $1 million in support for schools throughout the U.S.

 

"Andy Shaw Ford has participated in school fundraising programs like the recent Drive One 4 UR School event at Smoky Mountain High School, which have increased in popularity year after year," said Larry Hinton, General Manger of Andy Shaw. "With Box Tops for Education, we have the opportunity to help more kids in the Jackson County area than ever before," he added.

 

Starting October 3, participants can earn and collect Box Tops for their local schools in three new ways. They can request a brochure from the official Ford/BTFE program website at FordDrivesBoxTops.com (worth 10 box tops); watch 5 product videos on the program website (worth 25 box tops); or purchase a new ford vehicle at Andy Shaw Ford during the months of October and November (worth 250 box tops).

 

Each participant will also be automatically entered into a Box Top sweepstakes. Five Box Top prizes worth $1000 and one Box Top grand prize worth $20,000 will be given to the BTFE eligible school of each winner's choice. Participating schools can use the money earned from box tops in any way they choose.

Boyscouts receive CPR Dummy

  

Local Boy Scout Troop 999 sponsored by Sylva First Methodist Church is focusing this year on what to do when a person suffers a heart attack. This vital training program was greatly enhanced this week when the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation in partnership with the North Carolina Automobile Dealers Association and Andy Shaw Ford, Inc. presented a "Resusi Anne" training unit to the scout troop.
 In presenting the CPR unit, Mr. Larry Hinton, General Manager of Andy Shaw Ford, Inc. said, "If the right kind of treatment can be given  to a heart attack victim within seconds after he or she is stricken, the chances are good that their life can be saved." "CPR training teaches a person how to keep the heart beating until professional help arrives," he added.
Mr Hinton said that there has been a great increase in CPR training in our country with a coresponding increase in long term survivors from the effects of heart attack. The training takes about five hours of lectures and intensive practice. CPR is a requirement for many Boy Scout merit badges such as First Aid, Life Saving, Water Sports, and White Water just to name a few.
In accepting the CPR training unit Brian Lawrence, Troop 999 Scoutmaster, said that the organization had a goal to train all members of the troop in the next year. He also indicated that the unit will be available for other troops in the Jackson, Macon, and Swain County area to use for their CPR training.
"Resusi Anne" provides instant reponse by giving signals to the trainee that he or she is applying the right pressure to the right spot or breathing correctly into the victim's mouth. With training, the students learn the "feel" of giving quick lifesaving emergency treatment.
